| Re: Samsung Slimfit CRT HDMI problem
I'm having the same problem and have been being messed around by Samsung, who are denying they know anything about it. I've now spoken to three different people at the “care” centre and have been three different pieces of advice.
First I was told to track down an old 1.2v HDMI lead as the 419D doesn’t support the now standard 1.3v HDMI lead. So, I found one on Amazon, but the TV still switches off after a few seconds/minutes.
They then told me to downscale to 720p as the 419D doesn’t handle 1080i, so I did and still the same problem.
Finally, and bearing in mind I’m always very polite, the lady yesterday (let's call her Tracey, cos that's her name) said that there has never been a reported problem with the 419D and got quite snippy with me when I mentioned some of the many similar problems reported on these pages. She told me that most of the posts on these pages are made up and probably from America!
I mentioned people’s similar problems with Sky HD and she claimed that that was down to a problem with Sky, not them.
Her solution was to take the set to my nearest Samsung engineer, who would charge me £85 cash (plus VAT!) just to look at it. Or, take my DVD back, as it was probably broken!
She couldn’t get me off the phone quick enough.
I’ll keep trying different things, but it does seem that the 419D just can’t handle HD quality, unless someone out there knows better? I’ve also spoken to guys at Currys and Richer Sounds and they’re none the wiser.
But as you can tell, I’m not thrilled with the reaction from Samsung.
