No Colour

I have just connected a Tosh sd42 Home Cinema System Multi Region to my Philips 9527.Connection is vis S Video to Scart on Ext 3.

I sat down to watch DVD and everything was black and white,have tried 4 different (Pal) Dvd's and all are in black and white.I have tried switching the switch at the back of the system to Pal/NTSC/and Auto but still getting black and white!!.

Sorry but stupid question, have you set up ext 3 to accept s-video. I did have a toshiba tv for about 2 days and this is what I had to do.
black and white means either the TV does not accept S-Video (highly unlikely) or that it needs setting up properly

That is a good point as ext 3 when i bring it up to play the dvd,it comes up with cvbs as opposed to s-video or rgb.Does anyone know if I have used the wrong connection cable should I have used s-video to s-video,however I think the s-video slot is at the side of the philips 9527.

Or is there a way of setting ext 3 as s-video?

Must admit do not know about the philips model but there should be a menu that you can set, on the toshiba one you can do it from a menu and with my panasonic it comes up with options when you press the AV button.
S-Video also needs to be selected on your DVD player, I have my toshiba DVD playing through an S-Video cable into a Scart connector, until I get my switching box.
Have not tried S-Video through a normal scart though

You'll also need a fully wired SCART lead for S-Video.

I used to own a 9527. Try using ext 2. 1 and 3 are for composite and rgb, there is something about it in the manual for the tv on page 19.

TV should detect s-video input automatically.
