Hi everyone,
Ive had problems with my 32PW9527 and am about to return it. Ive just been told that the 9527 has been discontinued and replaced with the 9308. Does anyone know if this is a good tv? Whats been changed etc? I wonder if these have all got cybertubes rather then some having panasonic tubes.
Thanks a lot,
Chris

I downloaded the manual and under the Digital Options section it says
"Pixel Plus is the most ideal setting, doubles the horizontal
resolution and increases the number of lines with 33%.You may
consider to select MOVIE PLUS in case a halo effect should
disturb you. Dependent on your own preference, select Double
lines, or 100 Hz Digital Scan.
Note: When 60 Hz NTSC material is used, the options are changed
to Pixel Plus, Movie Plus or Progressive, progressive scan without
motion compensation".
I dont think that the MOVIE PLUS mode is in any of the current models and could clear up a lot of that digital smearing!
There are only 2 scart sockets on the 9308 with only 1 of them being RGB.

Hi there,
Could anyone say where to download the manual from? Ive gone to the philips home page and the 9308 model isnt even on there let alone the option to download the manual. Im thinking i should have a look at that as JL dont have any sets yet to show me..
Cheers,
Chris

Saw a couple of examples of this TV yesterday (Tues).
Looks different to the 9527 & 9617 models, more like the 6506 (50Hz set), but still better than some new models (- the Panasonics spring to mind - although I acknowledge its down to personal taste).
Definitely has the LG-Philips tube (i.e no telltale dots at sides).
Remote is better IMO as there are no flaps covering other buttons.
Menu system same as 9527, but looked much clearer and seemed a little bit more responsive.
Teletext also looked much clearer than 9527, which always looked a bit soft/murky to me. (Apparently due to the use of Y/C, because of the integration with the menu system, according to Philips).
Picture overall looked V. Good in the limited time I spent looking at them.
Difficult to see the effect of the 'Movie Plus' option in the 'Digital options' menu since the sets were only using an RF feed, and there wasn't much in the way of action/movement going on.
As with the previous P+ sets, sharpness needed to be set low (0 or 1) to avoid harsh, noisey pictures (especially with poor signals)
with P+ on
ALSO, one of the sets looked as though it had the dreaded dark/black bars at the sides of the screen.
Obviously not a good sign.

Can anyone confirm that there are only 2 scart sockets on the 9308. Has anyone seen this on the TV IRL?

I'm confused the new 9308 is a 36'' screen. Or is it availiable as a 32'' as well. If so anyone know if there is any difference apart from size ?
I'm looking at exchanging my 36'' 9607 for the pw369308 ???
Mega confused...

I have some questions to those of you who have spotted the new 9308!
Is the image less digital/processed looking than the
previous 9527/9607 (ie more like Loewe or Sony)?
Whith the new LG/philips tube, in what way is the PQ different?
Better/ Same/Worse?
I also missed the digital comb filter on my 9527. Can you find it on this new set?
I live in Sweden, so I probably won't be able to check it out the coming weeks, and your opinions are appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,
The new model 9308 is not a replacement for the 9527. This is a lower-end model featuring Pixel+. It is even cheaper (EUR 1800 I think).
The new model that will replace the 9527 is the 9528 (some documentation already on Philips' site) and the replacement for the 9617 will be 9618.
Hope they solved the following problems:
+ dark barks
+ high "pixelling" when objects are moving fast
+ halo effect (=> movie mode but what are the drawbacks?)
Anyone with more info or experience is welcome.
Good news for the 9308: it is not using a Pany tube but one without the two "side pixels".
Régis.

perka: You can see the TV at OnOff. I've been in two stores and they both had that the 9308.
I got the 9527 as well (with Panasonic tube) and I must say I'm very pleased with the PQ.
I didn't look that much at the PQ of the new 9308 but I saw that it was a Philips tube in it.
What I can say is that I think the picture was very "jumpy" (screen size changed) when going from a bright to a dark picture, much more then on my 9527.

Had the 32PW9308 for just over a week now. Generally very impressed with the picture quality in all modes. 'Movie +' certainly improves on 'Pixel +' with movement. Watched some footy in this mode with no probs. Obviously early days to say too much.
Definitely has the philips cybertube, and has stunning contrast and black levels.
Set up - wise, you definitely need sharpness at 0 with 'P+' or 'Movie+' switched on and these modes really show up the quality of the source material/transmission.
This set has a comb filter (you can switch it in or out - but not permanently - in the dealer demo menu option) which seems to me to produce some undisireable interference - like effects with text from built-in Tuner or Composite sources. Of course, it doesn't affect DVD from RGB (Not tried S-vid)
BTW got it from Pantheronline for £830 + del. - not the cheapest but superb service IMO.

Just got the 36PW9308 and initial impressions are v.good.
No bars, geometry good and the pixel plus movie mode appears to make quite a difference. My only only complaint is that it only has two scarts, but it's not the end of the world. I also think the menu system is a lot better than the previous layout. The remote has changed slightly too, no flip open panel
This was an exchange for my 36PW9607 that suffered the dreaded bars, but as no direct replacement ws available for this set, I took the 9308. No DD5.1, but as I have a home theatre setup, it was kinda wasted on the old 9607.
All in all I'm very pleased (for once).
