Good TV in the 1000£/1500£ range with suround

Ok... as some of you may have seen im looking for a TV in that pricerange and have been looking at the fx66 or 8807 (valuable info you may have will still be apreciated in that other thread).

In this I'm wondering which TV's about that price range have Suround sound, so I (or rather my GF) can get rid of my large speakers. Shes willing to cough up more money if needed :D

So.. help? and is it a good alternative, and how does it work?

Don't do it you will regret getting a surround sound TV.

Martin has a point here. If you are spending that sort of money then perhaps seperates would be best, but...
I've got a (£700) JVC AV32R25 with pro-logic. Didn't want to spend much and didn't want too many speakers cluttering the room. I'm very happy but I don't watch that much Dolby Digital media.

Martin - why the IDTV? I assume you like seperates because they are better and the system can be upgraded easier and cheaper.

You may be better buying a TV and discrete separaates,the speakers that come with surround TV's are q poor anda sub sat package can be had for very little. What will you be using the TV/sound for? Sky?cable?Cube? vhs? for these DPL2 is the best current format and for PS2? DVD? its DD and DTS.

For £250 i think this would give better sound than a TV with surround ( ~I havent heard thyem so cant really comment) Take the GF to listen to setup like this and see if you can compromise.

I have recently purchased a Panasonic TX-36PB50 which is available from online sources for £1439 and includes surround sound with the sub built into the back, while i have heard better sound from seperate systems it does me just fine and the boxes are small and discreet with a good soundstage.

The picture is excellant and lots of good feature............well recomended !!

lemonjelly77 has the TV I would buy if I was as rich as he is. My room (and mrs preston) restricts me to two satalite speakers at most. I guess you have to trade off inerior decoration against sound quality. If your room (and GF) can take the speakers then go with the seperate decoder.

A number of reasons

1) That vs Ondigital box
2) To me a tuner is an integrated part of a TV just like teletext and PAL tuners
3) It will work after PAL shutdown
4) Better quality than the seperate boxes

As to surround sound!

TV manufacturers don't fit high quality speakers, DD5.1 is rare and also not as good as seperates.
