Problem with remote sensor...

Hi,

Having thought for a couple of months that the remote for our Goodmans TV/DVD combo (GTV 51RF DVD) simply wasn't working, I decided finally to go out and buy a universal remote. However, this didn't work either, and I can only conclude that there is a problem with the remote sensor?

If this is the case, how do I go about getting it fixed, and (roughly) how much would it cost? Not having a remote has never bothered me before, but I've just bought an Xbox 360 and without the AV button I can't use it, so I need a quick solution!

There is no AV button on the set either, and changing the channel below 0 doesn't get to AV either, so I really am stuck until this is sorted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could be the remote sensor is dirty. I know it sounds obvious, but try cleaning the front of the TV around the controls and power button. As for the 360, try an RGB SCART cable as this will normally auto switch the TV to the AV input, and will provide you with better image quality as well.

you can "see" the led flashing on a remote control when you press a button if you view it with a digital camera ( & mobile phone I guess?) this was you could at least check that the remote is transmitting?

In what way?
Did you just try the codes listed for Goodmans?
Most "universal" type remotes have a "search" mode whereby the remote emits all the codes in it's memory one after the other while pointing it at the set...either automatically or by you holding down or pressing then releasing a button such as the standby button...check its user manual...once the set switches off you have found the correct or a near code.
That model of Goodmans is unusual in that it uses a chassis made by "Haier" so look in the universal remotes user manual for codes listed (if any) under that brand...or the search method.
