Philips 32PW9768 - Will not record.

Hi,

My Philips 32PW9768 (1 year old) has suddenly "locked me out" of the ability to make recordings to its internal disk.

When I press the record button on the remote, I see the message:

"Instant recording not (yet) available"

Anybody have experience of this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Philips 32PW9768 - Will not record.

Have you registered with Philips?

http://www.support.philips.com/

They may have the answer to that question online.

I am sure you are not in the UK, this is a 5-yo (looks cracking!) model here.

Re: Philips 32PW9768 - Will not record.

Hi aekostas,

I'll try Philips as you suggest.

Sorry to upset your bit of detective work, but after my Philips 9509 got killed by lightning about 18 months ago, I spent at least 6 months looking for a Pixel Plus replacement - here in the UK. Just about given up when I found a brand new 9768 for £300. New old stock I suppose you would all it.

Anyway, I've been pretty pleased with it, even though it only sports Pixel Plus 1.0

Having said that, it does have Movie Mode, which I much prefer. On the 9551 this appears to have been dropped.

It also has a Mullard tube rather than the Panasonic item in the 9509 - better geometry and less dimming at the periphery.

All in all a class bit of kit - IMHO.

Re: Philips 32PW9768 - Will not record.

Thanks Goggleyes and well done on *your* detective work, to get a new 9768 in 2007. I am well impressed. Thanks also for the info on the 9509, which I enjoy on a daily basis. Your comment re dimming and geometry is interesting; I have not noticed it on mine but then again I don't look for it either. I agree re Movie Mode and think that the HDD is great (while analogue lasts, I guess).

Does the 9768 have a decent way of dealing with 16:9/4:3 switches? The 9509 is absolutely pants about it.

Re: Philips 32PW9768 - Will not record.

No, unfortunately the format handling is just like the 9509.

Quite interesting having the earlier top of the range set after the "cheaper" but higher tech 9509.

Taking everything into account I'd have to say the 2 sets are just about on a par. Picture quality better on the 9509 some of the time, but 9768 being more tolerant of bit-starved Freeview transmissions.

9768 having sub-woofer and hard-disk recording - well, it did have!

Oh yes, the 9768 also consumes about 80 more watts - think most of this is down to the tube.

cheers.
