KV28FD1E - Red lines horizontally across screen

Hi All

I don't know if anyone can assist but recently my Sony KV28FD1E has started to have horizontal red lines appear across the screen. When it first happened, you could tap the screen and it would be fine but now the red lines are staying on longer and longer. It seems that the tv is not degaussing properly but do these units degauss while on? I'm only saying that because if I turn the tv off then leave it for a while, when it turns back on it makes a "clunk" and is fine. If it is turned off and back on straight away then it doesn't "clunk" and the red lines are still there.

I love this tv and just want to know if it is worth having it repaired or has the tube started to fail?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

James

Re: KV28FD1E - Red lines horizontally across screen

Your red lines have nothing to do with degaussing.
They can be the symptoms of a failing crt but to be sure you'd need to get the set checked by a competent TV repairman.

Re: KV28FD1E - Red lines horizontally across screen

The Degaussng circuit only operates from cold as it is operated by a thermal switch inline with the mains switch. As for the lines it sounds like flyback lines which could be a problem with the tube but, can sometimes be caused by excessive voltage from the line output transformer this can be sorted by adjusting the G2 control on the line output transformer or in the tube base PCB (the G2 is often marked "screan") Hope this helps or else it's new tv time. Good luck
