Sony FS76 - B&W DVDs

At long long last my FS76 arrived (new stock too - no apparent issues as with last year's batches).
Anyway, I plugged in my DAV-S550 DVD player using an s-video to scart cable (no scart output on DVD player! Great thinking Sony) - plugged in to AV2 on the telly (the one marked DVD!). For some reason I can only get playback in B&W. If I move the scart to AV4 it works fine.

Any suggestions please: (1) possible resolutions? (2) better ways to connect these 2 bits of kit? The picture's ok but not jaw-dropping.

are you sure AV2 supports s-video or have you told it that it's connected to a s-video source (not sure about Sony but on my panny you have to tell it)

Ive got a DAV550 plugged into AV3 mate on my FQ75 using a QED svideo lead and it works fine (no B&W)

However, to play SVCD and VCDs I had to go into the service menu to turn on NTSC support for AV3.

Are you using R2 dvds? As they should be fine as standard.

With regards to best way of connecting I got told from various sources (on here, hifi shops/web sites) that using a high quality svhs to scart lead is the best way of connecting (on a DAV system anyway)

Hope that helps

On the FS76 - AV1 & 2 are RGB and 3 & 4 are S-Video
It assumes you'll be using RGB form DVD so thats why it's labled that way.

I used to use S-Video for DVD but recently upgraded to RGB with a QED RGB only scart cable. Can't say I've noticed a lot of difference but I've not compared them side by side.

Same here

I have the Dav 770. Had same B&W problem. Only resolution I have found is to move to different AV. No noticable difference in picture quality though (to my untrained eye).

Regards

Tom
