would u buy philips 32pw9617??

ok, having read the sticky and a lot of the posts,
I now see my 1st choice telly is not as straightforward as i first thought!
Would you buy this telly if you had the chance again?
Or what are the alternatives.
My budget is £1200 and this tele has got to last me a long long time!
Looking for the best 32inch 100hz
and also want decent sound, either built in or via seperate system.
I will be connecting via sky minidish and have an
alba dts dvd (on which the volume goes very low when i play it)
cheers

Absolutely. No reservations at all. I do not feel there is any equal or better on the market within the same price bracket.

Superb picture, good sound, doesn't look bad either- what more can I say.

Agreed. On DVD (Tosh 220 and IXOS scart) the picture is stunning and with a good terrestrial signal from a good quality antenna it is very good. I have the front L/R piped thru my hi-fi with sub attached to the pre-outs of the pre-amp. The centre and rear L/R are supplied from the TV. With that sound setup the surround sound is so good I have postponed any upgrade (say a separate surround procsessor) for several years.
I do not see any of the problems reported in this forum. Everyone who has seen my setup agrees my opinions. This is a best-buy

Agreed. I have the 9527 with an amp and speakers of the rear piped from the surround output on the rear of the TV. Only a cheap Tosh SD110E player, but the picture and sound is stunning. If you get a good example and carefully set it up the results are excellent.

What guarantee you getting for £1150? I got mine for £1229 from John Lewis with a 5 yr guarantee. Definetely worth having.

sorry,don't agree

I hope I don't incur too much flak from the pixel+ fans above, but I can't agree with them.Thankfully the 100hz option is it's(my)saving grace,if not for that I couldn't bear to switch it on.I've said it before on this forum, but I'll say it again;movement on p+ and double line is s**t.Please take some DVD's into a shop with you and give it a good test drive,if you like what you see, fair enough.
Other peoples opinions are fine, but in the case of pixel+ it's a case of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"!
Having said that, you seem to want it for 100hz.If that's the case and you like what you see at that setting it's probably worth buying.

The two others that were on my shortlist before I bought my 32pw9527 were the Sony kv32fx66 and the Toshiba 32zd26.Trouble is,if you peruse this forum you'll see a lot of owners of these sets with their own problems!I have to say that in my case the Tosh fell at the last post. This was based on a lot of users mentioning dark vertical bands down each side.Although I couldn't see these in the shop I knew I was going to keep looking for them, which is a real shame as the picture I saw in the shop was absolutely f*****g awesome. Why not take a look at one and see what you think?I've also come to the conclusion that the same model can differ from set to set and that maybe if you like what you see on the shop floor it's worth asking if you can have the actual set you're looking at!
It's also worth mentioning that the Tosh has component video inputs and will display progressive scan with a compatible DVD player(I still keep thinking I should have gone for one!)

Have to agree 100% with silent.........I had the 9527 and I thought it was a shocker .......The set just does not appear to be able to deal with fast movement its a real shame as it looks and sounds great and the 'stills' on the tv are superb .......I tried to live with the set and tried double lines and 100hz drc on/off sharpness on/off every possible configuration but to no avail it just leaves a totally unatural 'tracer' effect on motion .......as for watching sport like football forget it!.........Oh yeah and don't forget those lovely little black bars

I backed it and bought the Sony 32fx66 while this tv is not without its faults (buzzing etc) Mine is absolutley brilliant and deals with all types of pictures no probelm...... has no buzz and looks the nuts

I strongly reccomend the 32fx66 as IMO it is far more capable than the p+

P.S You can get the Tosh for under a grand meaning you could upgrade to a dvd player with component outputs.Just a thought

Take a good look at the geometry before you part with your cash. My 28PW9617 went back and I bought a Loewe instead after I got fed up with vertical lines with kinks in them.

I noticed it first when the edges of the picture in 4:3 mode bent in or out depending on how bright the picture was. Then I began to notice it was the same in widescreen, just harder to spot.

I tried to swap it for another one but John Lewis pulled the "they are all like that sir" trick.

Anyway take a good look, your milage may vary...

I've had one of these for 6 weeks now and was initially pretty worried about it (see my thread on the 9617). However, after some excellent advice from this forum and a lot of playing around with the settings I'm now very happy indeed.

I've never had the 'black bars' problem and I seem to have got round the shimmering issues by being selective when using P+. In general its 100HZ for footy but sometime P+ is okay (particulary if the game is at night - if it's sunny then only use 100HZ). The Premiership on ITV is always total pants !!

Some SKY channels are crap - but that appears to be down to bandwidth - not the TV.

I had the low volume DVD problem but solved it by upping the Delta volume input for the SCART socket I use.
