Toshiba 2557db red colour imbalance

Afternoon

I've just been given a Toshiba 3357DB by my neighbour when he moved out, not bad for a freebie.

However there is an orange/red hue over the screen, no matter what I do with the tint/colour etc settings. Its noticeable but tolerable on programs with mostly light colours (eg news..) but particularly bad when the picture is dark eg. on teletext the background is a very dark burnt orange colour instead of pure black. Problem persists with dvd-input, game system etc as well.

There doesnt seem to be a problem with displaying green or blue colours - these are distinctive enough on screen - there just seems to be too much red generally.

The picture itself is still very sharp and there are no other defects, so would be nice if there was a solution to this (my own tv is less than half the size..).

Any suggestions are welcome, don't worry about being too technical - I do have google to help me decipher any answers..

Re: Toshiba 2557db red colour imbalance

If you turn the colour all the way down until you get a greyscale and if the picture is tinted red it's a sign of an ageing and on its way out crt.
These models were prone to early crt failure.

Re: Toshiba 2557db red colour imbalance

these set where fitted with the **** phillips tubes which were not very good... you can tell if its tube by tapping the neck of the tube with the back of a screw driver and see if it flashes over then if do chuck the set cos they no longer make crt .. good luck
