Problem with my old Thomson

Hi Guys,

I have a 7yr old Thomson 32KV24U crt and over the last week or so it has decised to start switching its self of whilst I am watching it and now it will not come back on (it flash when you press the power button then goes dead).

I have tried disconnecting everything from it but no joy.

Any ideas or do I need to treat it as a cloud with a silver lining and get a new LCD replacement?

Regards

Alex

Re: Problem with my old Thomson

I suspect your model is actually a 32VK24U.
The high voltage "Line Output Transfomer" is the most common failure on this Thomson ICC17 chassis and repair costs are likely to be around £70-£100.
To be sure you'd need to call in an experienced engineer for an accurate on-site diagnosis.

Re: Problem with my old Thomson

JayCee,

You obviously apear to know a lot about this type of issue (guess your and engineer) and wondered how complicated it would be to replace the Line Output Transformer? I think I found the bit of kit at : http://www.signalsuk.com/signalsuk.n...C?OpenDocument

I am not a complete buffon with electrics but is this a job for the experts bearing in mind I could do with saving the call out fees etc.

Cheers

Alex

Well, sure we're all in the same boat trying to save money but some jobs are best left to the experts.
I don't know how skilled you are with a soldering iron and if you're comfortable handling electronic components...then there's the safety issue of course...which is really the most important.
It's your call.

Re: Problem with my old Thomson

I agree, I wouldn't recommend changing a LOPT yourself due to the high voltages that are stored inside the CRT and/ or capacitors.

Alex check the Horizontal output transistor if good, then resolder it and a Coil that is connected to the base of that transistor,i don't know about that chassis so i can't give exact placement of those components,

silv, this is a UK/Europe-based forum and we have different TV systems and models/chassis from your side of the pond.
The components you mention generally do not not on this chassis give any trouble.
