Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this query,as I am new to the Forum,
My Son bought a Beo 1 tv,whilst living in Germany, he now has to move with his work, so wants to send the TV to me in England, he says I am to use it, will I have any problems in receiving a Picture and Sound,as it was sold for the German market? I also have an NTL box on my own set which I would want to use with the Beo 1.as you can see I have no idea about these things, I don't want my Son to pay for Carriage to England if it is not going to work here, I hope that someone can give me some answers, thank you for reading my post.

I have no personal experience of the model in question but suspect it would be useable in the UK...as long as PAL-I can be selected in the standard tuning/setup menu...if not a local TV engineer should be able to change it within the service menu...as a last resort because it is a European design it will have a scart socket or two and that would be the preferred option to connecting/using it with your cable box...so yes...it will work.

Yes he has the original remote, it;s just we are getting conflicting advice, the Local B.O say that we will get a picture but no sound due to the Chassis not being compatable to the signals in the uk, they suggested changing the Chassis at considerable expense if I find any technical advice I will post it here and hope you can help further, thanks for advice,I hope all will be well when it arrives.

It should definetly work in the UK, as Germany use the pal signal. I suspect B and O are just trying to get you to send them the set to make some money out of you,lol :D .
Also they would be keen for you not to import and and buy a new television from them.
Also you probably got someone who didn't really know what they were talking about. The bottom line is it can display the pal signal, so there will be a way to get it to work in the UK, if not directly, indirectly at little cost.
Right I just found some specs on their german TV's and they support all format's of pal, so it should definetly work!! And you won't need to change the chassis anyway.
You can connect whatever you want to use, thorugh one of the many socket's.

Hi Mofoman and JayCee,
i'm the son who has the TV and i would like to thank you both very much for your help. Your advice is the same as that i received from a friend of mine but not the same as that given by the BO techicians in the UK. Thanks for the confirmation. I must say the news is a great relief!

You can connect whatever you want to use, thorugh one of the many socket's. | The UK uses PAL-I and Germany uses PAL-B/G which has a different audio carrier offset so you won't get any sound, but as long as the set has can be set to PAL-I it will work OK.

From that link you posted it says: CTV system according to type:
B/G/D/K/I/L/L4/M, PAL/SECAM, NTSC on AV
What that means is that it will do both PAL-B/G (Germany) and PAL-I (UK) for broadcast signals. In other words, the TV will be fine over here.
Irrespective of that, your NTL box will work perfectly well when connected via scart.
It's a lovely telly...grab it! |
