is htere a way of testing geometry then ?

are there any dvds with a screen grid layout to test this sort of thing ?

Most channels would rather go on 24 hours/day, putting on mind numbingly boring moving stuff (read : "infomercials") instead of a stationary screen....

Saying that, some DVB satellite channels (i.e. those on astra/hotbird sats) still use test cards when off air or broadcasting temporary material.

Avia and Ultimate DVD Platinum (I got the latter for £10 delivered at www.ezydvd.com.au). Also, you can use a THX disk that has Optimode on it (e.g. Monsters Inc, T2, etc).
