Dell Display cable

My son has just been given a Dell 17" monitor which meets his needs. Problem is the owner has cut the display cable off some 2" from the monitor.
I have looked inside and its not possible just to fit a replacment cable.
Question can I patch (wire up) another cable to the remaining existing one.
Or am I wasting my time as there are 8 wires in the cable.
Regards

Re: Dell Display cable

To be honest you are better off getting another monitor, there are many CRT's being got rid off nowadays and you could probably pick one up for either free or next to nothing. Patching the VGA cable back in is never going to work well.
