Am I the only one to cling-film their remotes?

Hello,

I just wondered if I'm the only one who wraps their remotes in cling-film to keep them free of pizza-grease and lager stains?

Everyone who comes round seems to think I'm nuts... but I recently sold an old Pioneer 505 dvd player and the guy who bought it said that the remote looked like it had hardly been used, which, kind of, it hadn't.

So am I a loony or not...

I do not use cling-film but I used to use magicians gloves when handling front panel buttons and knobs. When watching movies, I would not bother with gloves but use my left hand for handling remotes and my right hand for handling potato chips, biscuits, wine gums and similar stuff. It worked pretty well.

I do not let peoples opinion on these tings bother me, because I still have the indication print left on my stuff, except for the amplifier that is 10 years old. People I know have called me to ask for help, because the indications on their almost new VCR were rubbed off by finger grease, and now they can no longer remember what button does what.

I don't bother so much anymore with keeping the stuff clean, given how old most of it is. I have some game consoles whose controllers get sticky, but that is easily resolved by taking the controllers apart and cleaning each part with isopropyl alcohol. Grease is a killer when handling game controllers, look at the ones in stores. They have this shiny look, like waxed fruit. Sony even had to leave out the rubber pads on the controller thumbsticks in their PS2 kiosks, because it wore out so quickly with peoples hands covered in burger grease and whatnot.

Cling-film sounds like a good idea though. I might try that.

Well you did ask so..... sorry, but I think you're a bit weird to do that Matthew

As far as I'm concerned, I buy an item to use it. When it gets worn out, I replace it.

Similar things I have found weird include:

A relative putting plastic sheets over her sofa. They never came off for the entire lifetime of the sofa, so no one ever knew what it was like to sit on the sofa itself!
A friend who bought books and then photocopied them and used the photocopies because he didn't want to wear out the books!

At the end of the day though, it's your money - do what ya like

I do wipe my hands on a tissue before touching the remote or front panels though. That much I can manage.

Oh yeah,

Cling film is magic for preserving remotes although i wouldn't recommend doing it to your mates toilet seat - honest

Don't use cling film, but funnily enough, I do leave them in their transparent plastic bags they came in. No coffee disasters for me.
Doesn't help when wifey throws them at the wall much though...

you all need help, now if you dont mind im off to watch Last of the mohicans in glorious 5.1 surround, now where did I put my anti static nasa designed suit (so I dont desturb the speaker's radio transmission naturally)

dont know if this is any help. but you can buy i thing called a mobile phone condom u put the phone in and put a hair dryer on for a second or 2 and it shrinks round the object ie. mobile .remote

Well I don't think you're wierd, I certainly wouldn't want anything on my £150 pronto touchscreen remote.

Also I find it unappealing to use a grubby device and I wash my hands after eating and especially after going to the toilet (a lot of people don't do this last bit

).

I'm not saying wear a biohazard suit, but I usually put remotes in the plastic bag they came in.

I thought this sort of thing was strictly in the Asian domain.

I myself do not partake in this practice but I know a few people who do and he get right up my nose.

I'm forever annoying them and ripping the cling flim off ;-).

As someone remarked before - keep yourself clean and dirtying your equipment isn't a problem.

I'm clean and always careful, but others don't approach equipment with the same care. *** is the problem if there is clingfilm. As long as you can see the buttons and use the remote it doesn't matter.
