Got a Sumsung 409 this morning......

Finally it arrived from amazon , lovely looking thing,
first thing i noticed was the tilt , it was massive , the tilt settings start at 0 and go from -7 to +7 , had to set mine all the way to -7 to get it straight,

Then the Geo , oh no , there it was , the bendy lines.......

then i tried Hi def through the xbox 360 , read a earlier post where someone was saying it was rubbish, well it didn't look too great to be honest, but then i remembered the switch on the hidef xbox cable where you could switch between hi def and tv, der i had it on normal tv , there is hope.... come on the hi def, i flicked the switch and bang , picture was amazing , stunning , , much better than i could have hoped for.

then the buzzing , it comes and goes, sometimes hardly there , so hopefully it will settle down.

then theres a strange pull plastic thing sticking out the back , looks like the sort of thing that needs pulling out , best i can describe is the plastic they put in between batteries and their connectors in kids toys, once you remove it , the toy will work...

overall its great apart from the geo , but am going to keep it , great picture otherwise, but the geo is bad, so i called up samsung and they are sending someone round next week to sort it ( i hope)
take a look at the geo , its not me , its needs sorting doesn't it ?

It sure does.

At the moment, I would best describe it as c**p.

Cheers,

Martin.

Re: Got a Sumsung 409 this morning......

I ordered mine from amazon yesterday, I was hoping they would be from the newer batch talked about that had less of a geometry problem.

Verticals look straight to me, but yes the horizontal does seem off.

Keep us posted on the outcome of the Samsung Engineer.

How long did it take for you to get the TV? Amazon have quoted 18-25th to me. Did it come any sooner than they said?

Re: Got a Sumsung 409 this morning......

Straight down in ratings I go I don't like to sound nasty but anyone who buys one of these after reading all the problems associated with it is taking a big gamble. If you can put up with it's geometry faults (I'm sure this vary's from set to set) then it does do a very good job for the money. It should be no surprise that it arrives like this... more of a surprise if you get a perfect one..... if that's possible.

Re: Got a Sumsung 409 this morning......

if it is indeed..........

i dont really have a problem with the Geo , i am sure that can be altered in the engineers menu, its the damn buzzing, things like that send me mad, i end up not listening to the tv prog , but trying to listen out for the buzzing to see if its there ,
still i'll talk to the engineer to see what he says, the picture is so good though i want it to work for the money you see, if no buzzing it would be the nuts (geo permitting of course) if not it goes back and i'll try another one, then i will have to upgrage to a toshiba lcd i suppose.

Re: Got a Sumsung 409 this morning......

Came so so close to buying one of these but it was just too big for the space available. In retrospect I'm glad I stayed away cos off all the crap reports that's been written about them on this site. 99% negative 1% positive. Says it all!!

Gammy

- Which is all well and good except that isn't the case at all.

There are more than a few of us around here very happy with our '409/'419.

Re: Got a Sumsung 409 this morning..The Samsung man Cometh

The Engineer Cometh.

ok he sorted out the vertical lines on the set , said he couldnt do anything about the bow, it was to do with the tube, they are all like it. not true i said , seen pictures on here........

any way onto my major gripe the buzzing !!

'The buzzing' he said that samsung has given them something to get rid of the noise but he didnt have any on him and would need to come back ,

basically i said forget it , i'll get a replacement as i only have a week left with amazon to do so and he said good idea.

so thats what i'll do , just been into the service menu myself and i couldnt seem to get rid of the bow either, still the geo's ok as the picture is superb, and as long as the buzzing can be cleared up this model will do me for a few years at the price.
i just hate the buzzing , its like an old VHS on pause. remember that
