Bush 28" Giving Up The Ghost

Hi all, I've been visiting these forums as a guest from time to time to soak up some wisdom, but now I've got something a bit more specific I could really do with some help on;

I've got a 28" Bush CRT (the 4:3 one most people got from Tescos for £200) which is a couple of years old. It's been fine up until my landlord started some building work and I think some brick dust may have gotten in under the dust cover (it wasn't a very good one, the top of the set is filthy).

The problem is that it will turn on OK, then within a couple of seconds of displaying a picture, it will fade to a black screen over about 5 or 6 seconds. It will remain like this a for a good 10 minutes, then quickly fade back up to a normal picture for a few seconds, then back to the black.

I was getting this to a lesser extent about a week ago (it would be fine for 30 mins or so and the blackness would only last for a minute or two) but it's got so bad it's physically unwatchable now.

My main questions are as follows:
Is there anything anyone can reccomend I do without the help of a engineer?
If not, what's the best/chapest course of action as to getting it fixed?

Any help would be gleefully recieved.

if you are ok with taking the back off the set i would and hoover it out, but be very careful as there is a very high votage in there but i would try this first incase there is some dust from the building works .
i had this problem a few years ago when my good lady did some sanding it seem to work

Thanks for the suggestion spark, obviously that was my first idea, I just had to locate a thin enough screw driver! I've taken the back off and it looks more or less clean as a whistle! There's a bit of dust near the power supply, but no more than should be expected. I didn't hoover it because my landlord dismantled our hoover and it'd probably make it more dusty now!

All the components looked pretty sound too, no real signs of ware or overheating. It's stopped giving me a picture at all now as well, the screen's dead right from powe-on.

Looks like I'm gonna have to find a good technician!

Dust doesn't cause problems to TVs...there was probably a dry-jointed component which you disturbed while "Hoovering" it.
