Help - fault with Panasonic 32PD50

I've had a Panasonic TX32PD50 for almost a year now, and since I bought it it the picture has intermitently had a green or yellow tint. the tint appears accross the whole screen and has a real effect on the picture. I usually use a decent quality scart cable as my input. The fault appears whether the signal is coming from my Sky box, DVD player or standard aerial. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to when the fault appears - you can watch telly for several hours and there's no problem, or you can switch it on and the fault appears, and stays for about an hour.

Anyway, it is still (only just) under warranty. I sent it back to a Panasonic engineer who said they weren't able to detect a fault (which I thought was odd, cos all you have to do is watch it). It is now back with the engineer but I'm paranoid that they wont be able to find the fault before my warranty runs out.

If anyone has any suggestions or experience of this problem then I'd really appreciate your input.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

There should be no problem with the guarantee.

You've reported the fault within the 12 months and so they can't just wait for the warranty to run out and then hand it back to you.

The problem is a poor connection, probably a dry solder joint.

These can be the devil to find, but an experienced engineer should have a good idea where to look.

My main worry is that the engineer will say that there isn't any fault (again). I think I'm probably going to have to go the repair shop and sit and watch the telly and then point out the fault when it appears so that they can't deny it.
I don't know if any other users of the forum have experienced this problem.

It's always a good idea to take a photo of this when it happens so you can prove it really ocurred.

Good idea, but I bet the fault doesn't happen in the workshop!

A nice idea but as an engineer if the fault can't be replicated in workshop even after soak testing it will be considered a one off. This is likely to be a back and forth job until they finally see the fault or just get fed up spending time on it and then decide to take some form of cure action, at least imo.

Yup, it seems like a common problem with CRTs... My old Sony decided to intermitently turn blue. The engineers I sent it to couldn't find a fault after keeping it for 2 weeks, much to my annoyance.

This problem really is a pain. It would be fine if it was constant, you could show to the engineer and it would be easy for him to fix, but this seems to happen at random.
