JVC AV32T25 - Dark picture/smearing problems

Had this set for 4 years now. Thought it was great when I bought it but now it's really peeing me off

The picture when fed through RGB is very dark. Dark scenes in movies are very difficult to see, even in a dark room. There is also a lot of smearing from moving light images. I think the set has always suffered these problems but whether they have, or are, getting worse, I'm not sure. I'm using decent scart leads and have tried swapping them back to cheapo ones, but this made no difference. I am unable to adjust the brightness with an RGB feed.

If I'm watching Sky and the programme is dark, I find that pressing the "TV" button on the Sky remote brightens the picture considerably, but at the expense of sharpness, as it has then reverted to a composite signal.

Could anyone please shed some light - literally!!- on this problem, ie. Can it be corrected in any way? Via the Service Menu perhaps?

It has now got to the stage where I am spending a lot of time in the "Plasma" threads, but I'd rather make this set last a bit longer. If not, I think I'll be putting it up for sale - but who wants to buy a CRT with a dark picture

Help

On the AV28-T5, there's a picture mode which can be set to Bright (in the normal menu). You'll probably be able to get the Service Menu by pressing [i] & [mute]. Also, I've noticed, n the T5, hat the picture when connected via Ext-2 was far worse than that when connected to Ext-3...

Thanks Prof,

I've tried the Bright setting to no avail.

Once in the service menu, what do I do

Be careful in the service menu - mess something up and you could be right in the poo. Infact, I wouldn't touch anything at all unless someone who knows what they're doing tells you first.

Re: JVC AV32T25 - Dark picture/smearing problems

Phil,

I know this is an old thread but I have had similar issues with my JVC, but in reverse. I have always thought that the PQ was very wishy-washy with too much colour emphasis on reds, yellows and oranges but with little on blues, greens and black. I had it running with RGB connection which improved things but still not to my complete satisfaction - too bright. Additionally the TV's picture menu seemed completely redundant when running through RBG. I then discovered ( after about 3 yrs ) that the sharpness function still worked and EUREKA!! set it up to near maximum and the colour definition was fantastic. Unfortunately moved house about 2 months later and the TV is too big for where the Sky connection is so I'm back watching wishy-washy TV via a composite video sender until I can re-route Sky cables.
Could be worth a try.

Re: JVC AV32T25 - Dark picture/smearing problems

Hi Gammy,

I've solved the problem - I bought a Panasonic 37PX600 Plasma - and it beats the JVC PQ by a mile

Thanks anyway,
Phil.
