I just bought a Tosh 36ZP18Q :)

Am am quite pleased with it - apart from how insanely heavy it is, lol :D And it's rather on the deep side (2ft! ) but that was to be expected really....

Decided I needed a bigger screen than my trusty 28" widescreen, and wanted bigger than 32", but even tho the space-needed and weight of an LCD would be great, for the money I could spend, I didn't really like either plasma or LCD, due to colour reproduction, response times, and pixelation, etc...

So I went for one of these 36" Tosh CRT's, as I do love the natural colour and contrast these give, and lack of response time limitations (in comparrison)

Only thing is, untill I move house, it's in my bedroom, and I sit about 8ft away from it - great cos it's big, but not so great because I do notice every now and again, the "black lines" between each line of "pixels", even when in normal full screen 16:9.

Is this due the 100hz thing (only ever had 50hz before) ? I had noticed to took carefull setting up of the colour, contrast, brightness and sharpness to stop it from being a bit "jittery" when in "100Hz mode" as comparred to the "normal" mode... Anything I am doing wrong?

Just need to wait for my SCART(RGB)-to-Component lead to turn up, so I can try my DVD player with that lead as opposed to scart-to-scart lead, just to see if it's any different (sadly, the Tosh only has one RGB Scart input, with two normal scarts and component in, so I really want the Freeview box on the RGB scart input, VCR on the normal scart, and DVD will have to go in the component inpout, but only has RGB scart output on it, so needs a converter lead)

(not mine, generic pic - mine is without that horrible stand)

Re: I just bought a Tosh 36ZP18Q :)

nice choice in tv! got one myself.

if you press "menu", then under "picture", then on the option called "scan mode", change it to "progress"

i think the scanlines are because the picture is only made up of that many lines, progress i believe is de-interlacing and displaying the picture in a progressive scan mode. not sure if that right, its a semi-non-educated guess.

just realized my tv has the rounded bezil at the bottom, should be similar options though.

Re: I just bought a Tosh 36ZP18Q :)

Mine doens't have that option. It has the SCAN MODE under pitcure in the menu, but I have the choice between "natural" and "100Hz" and most of the time "natural" appears to be better, as 100hz can be a bit jittery :?

Annoyingly tho, my SCART > Component lead just arrived, but it won't display a picture when plugged in So I guess that my DVD player, even tho it's scart output is set to RGB, doens't support converting it to RGB component phono inputs Which means that the DVD player and the digibox will have to fight for the RGB scart input on the TV - unless I get a scart switcher, which I don't really want the hassle off....

Baseley09 - I didn't buy it new no (discontinued now). I got it from a private sale local to me and picked it up myself (damn heavy!!!!)

What you need is a RGB to component converter Although component uses 3 primary colours like RGB it uses them in different densities.

EDIT: if your freeview or DVD player has 2 scarts you could daisy chain them so you can use the same scart i/p.

Re: I just bought a Tosh 36ZP18Q :)

You lost me :D

My DVD player has a single (RGB) scart on the back of it, along with S-Video and composite video. My (current) freeview box has two scarts - 1 goes to the VCR and the other to the TV. I am not actually using my Freeview box with this TV mind, as I don't have a connection to a proper aerial where the TV is currently....

So how do I make my (RGB) scart output on my DVD become component Y Pr Pb input for my TV? And end result, will it be better in PQ than using RGB scart to RGB Scart?

Here's the info you need..... Converter one of the best and should improve picture given that the Tosh excels on it's component i/p. Somewhere there be cheaper alternatives.

I'm at a bit of a loss why your freeview box is connected if it can't be used.... but anyhow the cheapest method is..... DVD scart to scart 2 on freeview. The TV out scart (1) on freeview to VCR scart 2 i/p (record) and the TV out scart on the VCR to TV. Hopefully the TV RGB scart i/p also accepts composite in for the VCR otherwise this won't work. Finally provided the VCR and freeview box has RGB loop through (if not you wont get a picture) you'll be smiling.

Re: I just bought a Tosh 36ZP18Q :)

Lol, confused the crap out of me there, lol....

My digi box isn't connected at the mo (as said I don't have an aerial point for it yet in this room) but I was just listing what I intended to plug in where...

Basically this is the list of gear that will be used;

DVD player (RGB scart out only - no component output)
VHS player (used for playing only, not for recording - scart output)
digi box (PVR, so all recording done internally - SCART output (RGB I think)

So I was thinking that for best PQ, the digibox would be going into the single RGB scart input on the Tosh, the VCR would use one of the "normal" scart inputs, and the DVD would use the SCART>Component lead I got, only to find that DOESN'T work

And £145 is out of my budget for a converter sadly
