The set is a couple of years old and it's not the first time the engineers have been out for other problems, loss of sound, picture freezing ect.

The symptoms you have experienced are usually caused by a faulty text pcb (Teletext Printed Circuit Board)...there are a couple of tiny chips on this plug-in panel which give problems due to dry soldered joints on the pins of the chips. A good engineer can "reflow" these pins and cure it...or just replace the panel...which is what he has done by the sounds of things.
If the set has gone off again he has either replaced the panel with another identical faulty panel or this has been a red herring and the fault lies elsewhere in the set...there are another couple of transistors mounted on a different part of the main circuit board which can also go dry-jointed causing much the same symptoms.
You don't say if your set was repaired under guarantee or if you paid for this repair but the end result is the same...you need to call them back.
