Horizontal lines on Sony KV28CS70

Apologies in advance from a newbie, but folks advice would be appreciated....

...I bought a Sony KV28CS70 widescreen CRT and hooked it up to a cable box (RGB), DVD (RGB) and VCR (AV) via individual scart leads. On all 3 sources, there were 2 "blank" horizontal lines noticeable when you were close to the screen (one approx. 1/3 of the way down the screen and the other about 2/3 of the way down the screen). The screen would occassionally "flicker" in these areas, depending on the picture being shown (which is what drew our attention to the problem in the first place). Anyhoo, retailer came out to see problem and arranged a swap no problem. However, the second set is doing exactly the same thing! Given that these "dead" lines appear on-screen regardless of the input source - am I right in assuming the TVs at fault? Am I being unreasonable and expecting too much of a CRT picture (i.e. it is common to get horizontal lines appearing on a widescreen CRT due to the size of screen)? What would people consider a reasonable number of replacement sets to accept before demanding a refund, as it's a lot of hassle each time?

hi, i suspect your horizontal lines are caused by the horizontal support wires for the aperture grille behind the screen. This would be normal for a trinitron screen. I don't have a Sony TV but i have seen the wires on Sony computer monitors.
However i would have thought the most you would see is two fine horizontal lines 1/3 & 2/3 down.
I would suggest trying any picture quality adjustments available like reducing contrast/sharpness/brightness or noise reduction settings.
Other than that i would go to Comet/Currys etc and look closely at other Sonys to see if they are any different.
Good luck.

All Trintron crts have these, always had...it is not a fault.
It is due to the construction of the crt.

i have 2 FD trinitron tv's i cant see these lines unless i look REALLY HARD, and i can only see only 1 very fine vertical line not horizontol and its less the thickness of a human hair and only very visable on a very bright picture ie: bright yellow / white.

apart from that they are fine so maybe ue encountering anothe problem if u want an accurate responce take a pic
