Pana TX28DTX11. Is this BS or is it true

Been told that this model only accepts Panasonic Video Recorders. A store had 4 back over the weekend that c/m had problems using their existing "non panasonic" videos. when Panasonic was approached, this is what they were told.

thats a crock of crap there i must have installed so many none pana vcrs with this tv and they all work fine used videos from 10-15 yeasr ago such as ferguson also used hitachi,sony,toshiba,matsui you name it i have had them all connected to them at some point never had any problems.

Found out its an IC problem on the PCB. They are running tests on the fix now.

Thats the reason i didnt buy it, got the sony idtv instead. There's a Q-link incompatability with non-panasonic DVD recorders, i.e sony's smart-link etc. The TV will go into stand-by mode randomly. The older video recorders dont have this feature.

I'm a brand new member of AV Forums and thanks for this information.

I've had a TX28DTX11 since 11/05 and it didn't power off/on this way
until I connected a Sony VCR to AV2 yesterday.

The "bounce" first occurred during a test of Direct Record.
It then occurred a few times during tape playback.
I then discovered the bounce could also occur whilst the VCR
was in standby and powersave mode.

I then disconnected the VCR SCART from AV2 to verify that the bounce
would stop. After reading this thread, I guess it will!

If a fix is under test, how would Panasonic roll it out...assuming it would
be rolled out to existing users, of course?
Would it be a recall via the retailer, fixed in situ or only applied to new sets?

I've settled on a workaround to prevent the "standby bounce" on my
TX28DTX11 IDTV.

I set Direct Record to OFF on the SONY VCR in order to leave the VCR
in standby whilst watching the IDTV or during VCR playback.
I then set Direct Record to ON prior to any IDTV-timer-driven recording.
The recording has to be done whilst the IDTV is in standby to avoid
it bouncing whilst active, but I would do it this way most of the time
anyway.

It's not ideal perhaps, but it saves me buying a Panasonic device after
receiving the Sony VCR as a spare freebie from a relative.
