sony kv32fq86u switching off itself?

10 months ago I purchesed a sony KV-32FQ86U after many hours reviewing the television. The tv is holding all it good reviews apart from the fact it keeps switching itself off intermittently, well in the last 10 months it as happend between 8 to 12 times. (it is like you have switched off from the remote and then straight back on, with the clicking sound) do I need to take the television back for repair or is there a simple answer to my problem? The warranty runs out soon so just a bit concerned about what to do. any advise will be greatly appretiated. Mr L Grice

What are the symptoms when it is powering off?

I had an older sony trinitron that powered itself off intermittently, then more and more frequently until it didnt come back on again, ever. My sony's screen would go green and then instantly switch off, when turning back on you would hear what sounded like a very loud degauss. If it is similar issue it is on its last legs - get it seen to. I had to endure a 20" Samsung for months before I got my new Tosh 32zp48

Hi Gricey, there have been quite a few posts with regard to this problem.
just do a serach on the forum for KV32FQ86 and it should come up. There are a few other forum members who have had this problem also.
I previously had 2 FQ86's which did the exact same thing. Also, the no of hours that the tv had been run was showing over 60,000.
The retailer that I purchased the set from was very good and sent the two sets back to Sony. He said that most likely that the software was corrupted hence the random switching on and off.
I had the set exchanged for the KD32DX200 which has been fine.
It seems that Sony are aware of this and in later manufactured sets, the software was updated.
I would get back in touch with your retailer asap to have the set either exchanged, or the software updated.
Hope this helps !

Hi
Have you tried moving the remote out of the room to rule that out.
It depends how good your retailer/workshop is at finding a posible fault which they will probably not see in the workshop, you may have to pay a call out charge depending on which retailer you bought the TV from.

My Sony KP-44DX2 does it too!

Has been doing it about once a month since new (14 months ago)

Seems to only do it for me when SKY is in use - not when watching DVDs.

Exclamation Sony KV32FQ86u

I also have the same fault of the set switching itself off and on amongst other picture problems( set 7 months old)! I explored the possibilities on the net and found this site, after reading the threads it confirmed my suspicions that the set was at fault ( plus the fact we have had telewest engineer confirm their side was fine

We have a 3 year whatever happens policy and got an engineer to attend, firstly he was not please that I had researched the fault complaining that he has 100s of printout from customers visiting sites like these..Well isn’t this is what the Internet is for …information highway!!

He continued to mock me via my wife ( I was out ) and sites like this stating we know nothing !! Obviously we do now!!!! Which seem to be putting a strain on the engineers

He concluded there was nothing wrong with the set but would not put this in writing (very strange!)

He became very hostile and my wife asked him to leave, as I would deal with it. HE DID NOT
He ignored her and started to call his boss then a “TOP ENGINEER” laughing at the situation !

In brief :
She was advised nothing would be done as he could not SEE the fault

3 times she had to tell him she is ending this conversation and that I would be dealing with this.
He continued to mock the situation and told his boss “ I have an irate and anger customer her”
She was not she just wanted him to leave! , she was on her own with our 2 children under 3

…finally he left! ( full details of the situation that had occurred and complaint is drafted and set to arrive on the mangers desk and other organisations within a few days!)

So I am putting this out to you guys out there Do we know “NOTHING” as stated by this so called engineer!! Can anyone send me proof about fault until I receive SONYs reply??

I have contacted a local Sony centre for their ADVICE ONLY ( did not buy it from them)and I quote “I think you are right in what you say about the fault but I have no proof as we have never sold one or had to fix one”

If you can help me educate this so-called engineer please forward your reply

And to the engineer who will research this fault on the net..may even on this site
“COME TRY THAT AGAIN! WITH ME IN THE HOUSE ”

Unplug the power cord of the television from the AC wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
Turn on the television.
Remove all remote controls from the room where the television is located.

Hi Deano

I do have some sympathy with the TV engineer, but it is a question of attitude!
You do not say how often it switches itself off, or your picture issues.
When I worked with TVs it would sometimes happen that a TV would be taken into the workshop and left running for a week without seeing a fault.
It could be something in your house or it could be a faulty TV.
If you have a fault just keep trying, there are some faults that are difficult to get to the bottom of.
Its only a television, but I would guess it was his attitude that wound up the situation.

Nigel

I believe there is a Sony Service Bulletin covering this problem, an Authorised Sony Service Agent should have access to it.
