Buying a new old TV

Hiya

So the Sony shop near my work has a widescreen Sony TV, can't remember the exact model number but I've done some research and it's a good model.

Thing is, it's a couple of years old. That is, the TV they are selling is totally unused and so "new", but they stopped manufacturing them at least 18 months / 2 years ago. So it's old.

With me?

So my question is simply - do TVs degrade over time without being used? Or to put it another more specific way, could the picture quality, sound, anything at all to do with this TV, have diminished since it's about 2 years old?

Some capacitors inside a TV will degrade if the TV has not been switched on for a long period. They may well "reform" after a while, but there is a risk that they may not, and quality will possibly be degraded, because the capacitors are not working so well.
