| | Guest | SONY KV32FQ75 PROBLEMS
I've just bought a Sony KV32FQ75 from Empire Direct but I've noticed some problems with it. I've sent the following email to them about it. Has anybody else experienced these problems?
'I recently ordered a television from yourselves (Sony KV32FQ75) which was delivered to my house on Friday 27 July 2001.
Although I have only yet had the opportunity to use the television a couple of times, I have already noticed a number of problems with the television, which are as follow:
There are two horizontal lines on the screen (one at the top, the other at the bottom) on the AV channels. These lines are very faint and may not be visible during daytime conditions, but during evening conditions, I can see them clearly. They are visible whether or not anything is being displayed on the AV channels.
When something moves on screen against a dark background, a slight ghosting effect is sometimes visible. I would expect this if the television was set to DRC100 mode, but this also happens when it is set to DRC50 mode.
When there is a bright background on the screen (such as the sky), I can see some horizontal linear interference.
I realise that some of these problems may be inherent in the Sony KV32FQ75, but I'm sure not all of them are. These problems may seem minor, but I'm sure that you can understand that having paid a lot of money for a brand new television, I expect it to have no defects.'

I understand what you mean. I experienced many problems with my Sony 32FX20 early last year. Its annoying when you pay this much money for the TV and don't get perfect picture. Phone Empire Direct and Demand that they replace it!

I sit about 1.25m (max) away from the screen, so any problems with the picture crystal clear to me. Even though I'm sitting so close to the screen, the set still shouldn't have these problems right?

Hi.
I've had mine for about a month and haven't experienced any problems - I've watched a number of DVD's via Scart connection and they work well.
Maybe a faulty product?
Good Luck

I am not sure about TV but have been using Sony Trinitron computer monitor for many years. On all such monitor, there are 2 faint line across the screen. One is about 1/3 from the top and the other 1/3 from the bottom. They are called damper wire and is there on ALL Sony Triniton computer monitor and is considered normal. Hope this helps.

Empire Direct are going to send out an engineer to have a look at my TV. If the engineer agrees that the set is faulty, Empire Direct have agreed to replace it. If the engineer says that the set isn't faulty, Empire Direct will charge me for the engineer's visit.
I've noticed another problem with the set. The picture on the far left-hand side of the screen isn't as sharp as the rest of the screen. This isn't very noticeable on normal pictures, but when you see text (such as film credits or teletext) the problem becomes very apparent.

It seems your TV has not been configured properly. When i had a few faults with my TV, i got an engineer out from Sony, he told me that the person who configured my TV must have had a few drinks the night before. The geometry was completely out, the red focus was too!
Its a shame they may charge you, but you could always try an argue!

I bought a KV32FX65, a few weeks back from SDB.
Like your last problem you found mrsingh with your set, I to found that the picture to the left hand side of the set was not sharp, and can't make out the small text of the end credits of a Movie.
GarethH - Did you do directly to a Sony Service centre to sort this problem with your set ?.
This is frustrating because other than this it's a nice looking TV.
Please left me know....

If the horizontal lines to which you refer are, as konghh describes - i.e., visible on brightish backgrounds, faint black lines, very thin, about 1/3 and 2/3 of the way down the screen - this is an inherent property of ALL Trinitron CRTs and cannot be removed.
It is the shadow caused by a couple of very fine wires that are there to stop the shadow mask from distorting inside the tube. The Trinitron shadow mask is unique in this respect. There is no inherent horizontal support in the Trinitron shadow mask design. All other tube designs differ to this and do have inherent horiziontal bracing, and so don't need the wires.
The other stuff you describe may well be the result of inadequate setup.

I've looked again and there are actually three faint lines, not two. I've also seen some red outlines on people's faces. This almost like a convergence problem you would see with a rear projection TV.

I too have just bought the same model. I don't have any real problems that you describe. The only thing I do get is a wave moving horizontally across the screen, quite rapidly as well. It looks like it may be interference though.

The engineer came around on Saturday. I don't know how much experience he has with Sony TVs but he agreed that everyone of the problems that I pointed (including the faint black horizontal lines) were faults. Empire Direct have, based on the engineer's report, agreed to replace the set.
