Viewing Distances

I`m sure I read in one of the mag`s that the IDEAL viewing distance is 5 times the screen size. So with a 32" the ideal would be about 13' to 14'. Which happens to be about the viewing distance that we look at our telly and it seems about right.

I have a 32” set and watch it 8’ away, and it seem all right to me.
Just tried it at 2meters and it did seem a little close, but its what you get use to. I have been places with specialist screens for film, such as the one in Bradford, and their screens went out of viewing range, and they was all right (the purpose is to make you part of the thing that is showing). Also on all screens you tend to have targeted viewing e.g. you zoom in on one person talking and the rest is peripheral.
Why not pop in a store and see what a comfortable distance is for you.

simple answer is to take a tape measure and measure the distance from your tv to you usual viewing postion and then take the tape along to a high street store find a 32" tv and measure out your usual viewing postion and see if it looks ok

As for the IDEAL viewing distance being 5 times the screen size, i'd question that !!
have you seen a 28" tv at 11.6' ? smallllll.

I'm having a 40" tv delivered on monday and i'll be sitting about 7' from it

I was wondering what people considered minimum viewing distances.

I want to get a 32" widescreen TV but am wondering if it will look bad if I am only a couple of metres away.

Any views?
