Sony CS70 football verdict

Just watched my first football match on my new 28" set.
Must admit I was wondering if the 100Hz processing on an analogue signal would mess up my enjoyment.
No such problem. The set works fantastically well with no distracting artifacts.
Shame the England game was crap

See, this is the funny part - a lot of people complain about 100Hz messing up their enjoyment of football games on Sky - it's far more likely to be the compression artifacting on the Sky box (Sky Digital's bandwidth on all channels is questionable at best). Granted, there's digital enhancement techniques on some of the more expensive sets, but if you have one like the CS70 you aren't going to have that much in the way of fancy 100Hz processing.

With 50Hz your eyes aren't picking up on the errors with the source material so much because you're looking at a picture which by all rights is flickering quite a lot, so your eyes are automatically compensating. In 100Hz your eyes no longer have to compensate, and in many cases you'll see the source material at face value - I've noticed the compression artifacting on some poorly encoded DVDs more since switching to 100Hz - it's not that they haven't always been there, simply that I can see them clearly for what they are now.
