Why do these things happen when you try to do a favour to a friend?
(I once sold my totally reliable car to my Father-in-Law and it broke down as he drove it out of my driveway! )
The blinking LED (bet you called it something else

) is a code which will direct a technician to the area of the fault.
The vast majority of problems are power supply or timebase related.
As it's been disturbed, there's a good chance it's a poor connection or dry joint.
Unless you know what you're doing, please don't poke around inside!
