Had two, both had terrible RGB picture quality.
For the money I think Panasonic are taking the P*SS with this model. The most expensive 32" on the planet and has a list of basic faults from hundreds of people.
It has really put me off panasonic.

With 6 votes already in, the poll is really starting to hot up. Early indications suggest that half of PD30s work perfectly out of the box.  The turn out is not as good as expected. I think there might be some tactical voting going on - leaving it till the last minute to swing the results. Just another 1000 or so votes required for a representative sample - so keep voting and good luck Panasonic.
Next week's poll - How did you get on with your Philips TV?

I've had no problems with mine that weren't easily fixed by DVE (essential for anyone with any TV). Now, it gives just about the best image I've seen in a home environment, especially with NTSC progressive input. Gobsmackingly great....

Just an hour or two spent with DVE should improve image quality no end. It certainly corrected one of the problems I'd read about here and that was apparent with my set, that of a white flickering bar on the edge of the screen when using PAL progressive input. Turns out that the screen was zoomed in too far which seems to be a pretty common problem but is easily fixed via the service menu. Properly calibrated colour, brightness, etc will make a massive difference and removed many visible artifacts shown in the initial factory defaults set-up of my PD30. Obviously serious hardware problems/faults such as sets blowing up are another matter and I doubt that DVE could cure those faults
Granted, these things should be done in the factory rather by the user but that's a whole other can of worms..
I should also mention that I don't receive broadcast TV of any format to the PD30, nor do I use RGB for the DVD (but do for an Xbox which looks fine) and these two factors seem to be the source of many peoples frustrations. I think maybe the PD30 is just exposing the low quality, low-bandwith digital signals we get here in the UK for what they are, it's that old IT saying: garbage in garbage out because as I've mentioned, with a decent source my experiences have been completely satisfying.

gtfc, judging by the poll results, there is every chance you are going to get a good one. Good luck. I returned two partly because of noise on RGB when displaying a black/blank picture. I'm still not sure if its a design fault or caused by my particular set up. It does not happen with the JVC HV-32D40. It also had dirty screen and slight pink discoloration on both LHS and RHS. Ive come to the conclusion now that getting a perfect CRT is impossible so if it is 90% right, set it up as best one can, get a good DVD and a few beers in and enjoy it. Oh yes and sit as far away as possible and don't watch footy or snooker.

With all the moans about the PD30 in this Forum, I must say I'm surprised that more than 2/3 of voters are satisfied with their first set.

I think it's just that people who have a complaint/problem tend to be more vocal due to the frustration of discovering a fault/s than those us who are quietly content with our PD30's | |
