Safe minimum viewing distance for 42" RP

Hi Folks, slightly following on from Ericks post a few days back, does any know or are there any guidelines to safe viewing distances for 42" and above?
It would be good to know how close some of you watch too, besides the official line.

many thanks,

Martin

Read somewhere once a guideline of three times the screen size, would be round 10ft.
I have a 40" and sit about 9ft away, which is a nice viewing distance but
i could easily sit closer maybe down to about 7ft, wouldn't do closer because the picture starts looking soft and you might see lines.

Would an LCD RPTV not require as much distance because it has a better viewing angle than regular RPTVs though?

Would a 5-6ft distance be adequate for a 42" LCD RPTV?

The ROT I heard was between 6 and 8 times the vertical height of the screen.

What ever's comfortable, I'd say.

I thought all RPTV's had an LCD, or which ones have better viewing angles and why?
