24" Widescreen with Small Footprint
Anybody got a good one?
I was looking at the Toshiba 24Z33 but have been put off that a bit by reading a few comments on here.
Space is limited so the footprint is important.

My parents have the Sony KV-24LS35 PQ is quite OK and no problems, its certainly much better than the Philips and Thomson alternatives they were also considering, it is a littlie bit bigger but still small.

Smallest footprint will be obtained from a Flat Panel. At this size, LCD is the only option. LG, Philips, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, etc etc etc all make 22 or 23 inch LCDs. A 22 inch LCD is the same visible size as a 24 inch CRT.
They cost more than CRTs, of course. Expect to pay a minimum of around GBP900/1000 at this size.

That will limit you. All 24 inch WS CRT TVs (and there isn't a huge choice at this size) are pretty much the same dimensions.

I had a change of mind and went for a Toshiba 24z33.
I've had it nearly a week and all seems OK except last night I noticed a loud buzzing noise. This occurred whenever something really bright came on screen e.g. a woman in a really bright white dress = buzzing, scene switches somewhere else = no buzzing, scene switches back to woman in really white bright dress = buzzing!
What causes this?

Is the buzzing sound coming from the Loudspeakers in the set, or is it originating directly from its innards?

In that case, it is a line output transformer or a choke or other similar component that is being 'stressed' when the image contains a lot of brightness. CRT TVs have tended to enjoy this behaviour for as long as I can remember.
