Sony Wega KD28dx problem

I am trying to help an old man with his Sony TV
He was away for a few months and when he came back he was unable to get digital pictures-he gets a message "programmes not stored" which he cannot clear
I have gone into the installation menu and it will not let me highlight the tuning command (other commands are white but this one is not)
He has rang sony who seem to think it was something to do with his TV being switched off during the recent re tuning exercise
They want more than the set is worth to have a look at it and the old man cannot afford this
Can anyone offer any advice about how I can get the set to tune in please

Re: Sony Wega KD28dx problem

If you have a search through this site there are various reports of this problem.Sony appear to know about this problem but as you say they appear unwilling to help for free.
