Thanks: Gave 5, Got 1 | Connecting a DVD player to JVC Videosphere?
Heeeey.
I've just got my hands on a JVC Videosphere and I'm looking to hook it up to a DVD player. I've poked around and I think I'll be needing a RF Modulator but I think I'm still missing something to connect it to the old school arial. UHF apparantly.
Any advice would be great, I don't have a clue.
Cheers!

I've just wasted time looking for close-ups of the connections. I found a fascinating thread with pictures where someone was modding the Videosphere "into a working computer" with a colour display - but it tails off before finished. Don't look at this unless you're curious and don't mind a cul-de-sac Computersphere - moding a JVC Videosphere into a computer 20 December - bit-tech.net Forums
These are the most complete specs of the Videosphere that I can find: Black and white television receiver mounted on a platform. The videosphere has a spherical orange plastic casing with the tube, electronics and product name badge contained within. Controls for channel tuning, contrast, brightness, vertical and horizontal hold and volume are mounted at the top of the unit in a small recess. There is also a chain that the unit can be hung from, an antenna and entry for an earplug. The power cord comes out of the back of the unit. The whole sphere sits in an orange cradle mounting that is a squat square shape and the sphere can be secured to this or released from it.
So I guess that the sole input on the unit is the aerial? I wonder if yours was made before video recorders got going, you wouldn't think the Japanese would have missed out on a connection.
I hope someone comes along with expertise

I think there's what looks like two aerial inputs on the back, presumably for UHF or VHF. The switch above it says Rod/ Ext, which is to switch between the rod antenna and a wired one. You probably need some sort of old school plug connector for it. Maybe have a look round eBay for indoor aerials from that era?

To use a DVD player you'll need as you say an RF modulator...or connect a VCR using the method I outlined for the aerial and use its modulator with the DVD player connected to the VCRs AV input.

Is it spade terminals? I couldn't tell from the pictures I saw on Google (image search). Well in that case it'll be easy to hook up |

WOW!
I'm interested in stuff like this as in 1995 I went up to Edinburgh to meet TV collector Michael Bennett-Levy. More TV's than you could shake a stick at - and what a day to remember - nice guy too!
Sadly....I forgot to take my camera...D'OH! |

I remember seeing them in other colours, specifically white.
More of a style thing than anything else though at the time.
Chris Muriel, in Denver this week but normally...

Cheers everyone, sounds like good advice. I reckon I'll start pulling apart my uhf cable today.
That sounds good Soundman, I've got a new found interest in old TV's. I'm after this next: Panasonic Orbitel

Wow! I bet I'd have turned my nose up at it when it first came out, but now it's gorgeous

HI JAMBLAR
I don't know if you know about this but Michael Bennett-Levy has actually got a couple of books out about old tellies. One is HISTORIC TV'S AND VIDEO RECORDERS and I cannot remember the title of the other one, but you should still be able to get them and they are very good books as well.
I have one which is an American publication called "Classic TV's" and that is one to have in your collection too. |

I remember the Philips Discoverer 'Space Helmet' from the early nineties. Naturally it was a colour set.
