Is it possible to get a TV to start on AV1?

Hi,

I have an old Panasonic 36" CRT. When I switch it on it's always reverted to the aerial input (in to which I have nothing plugged). Is there a way of making a TV default to the AV1 input?

I've had a look through the instructions but can't see anything obvious. Just wondered if there's a hidden method?

Cheers

Unless you have a device a STB DVD etc connected to the scart input then the tv will always start on the tuner.A voltage is present on the output of these devices to switch the set to AV at switch on.

Hmmm... I have a Virgin V+ box connected to the AV1 socket.
(and a DVD recorder connected to AV2)

Re: Is it possible to get a TV to start on AV1?

Make sure you use fully wired SCART leads for both devices. On the V+ box, I think there's an option to set the SCART control on/ off. Try toggle this setting to 'on' and then save it again. Also select 'RGB' rather than Composite Video if you haven't done so already.
Sometimes this setting will reset after the box has been unplugged, or after an update of some sort.

It's also worth doing the same for the DVD recorder (refer to its instructions for more info). Ideally you should connect the output SCART of the V+ Box to AV2 on the DVD recorder, and then the output SCART of the DVD recorder straight to AV1 on the TV.

And also...basic but very common...make sure you're connected to the TV Scart and not the VCR Scart on the cable box.

Re: Is it possible to get a TV to start on AV1?

I've got a fairly late generation Panasonic CRT hooked up to a Topfield PVR and I get round this problem by simply turning on the PVR (or other source) a few seconds after turning on the TV - the right AV channel is then automatically selected

If the TV is turned on after the PVR (or other source), it will just revert to the inbuilt tuner as normal. This implies that sources only transmit the signal CRTs need to switch automatically when they're switched on - ie. not constantly.

My current Panasonic CRT behaves exactly the same as my old Panasonic set, so I'm guessing that this behaviour is normal for this make, if not all CRTs.

Don't know about your model as you didn't give it, but certainly all later and current panasonics have "power on preference" setting in the menu.

If all else fails a Universal Harmony remote could do that. Maybe an expensive solution though.
