Is This The Greatest Crt Tv Of All Time?

I've been hearing that the sony KV-36HQ100B crt tv, the last of sony's big screen u.k. crt's, is there best set ever.

However, would this particular sony in performance terms compete well with the other high end crt's from loewe, toshiba and bang & olufsen?

Sony's high definition pc monitors are noted to produce some outstanding pictures, but have some slight niggles with reliability and aren't really built for tv use, as, they are monitors..

Also, how do the best sony crt's (as well as the kv-36hq100b) compare with these other tv's mentioned above and in an experts opinion, what would your choice of crt tv be when it comes to flawless outright picture performance alone.

Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of crt manufacturers side to side would be helpful too.

Any information regarding the above will be much appreciated.

many thanks.

Re: Is This The Greatest Crt Tv Of All Time?

Well the Sony was certainly a good TV, of course getting very old now and hard to come by second or third hand. The ultimate crt was probably the Loewe Anaconda which was I think the only 40" CRT ever sold retail. It gets problematic to produce a CRT much over 36 as the tube reaches a thickness where it will collapse under it's own weight. I think the anacondas tube had embedded metal braces and it was extremely expensive at the time of it's sale. Though without it being possoble to compare them I wouldn't say it was certainly better except in size.

Re: Is This The Greatest Crt Tv Of All Time?

I still have my Sony 36" CRT and it is over 8 years old. It still looks and producing pictures perfect. In my opinion it is one of the best CRT TV to date.
I paid £2400 for it and its worth every penny.

Re: Is This The Greatest Crt Tv Of All Time?

i have the sony KV-36HQ100B i have had it about 5 years now and i think it is a superb set i paid £1700 ,i havent seen any of my friends or families lcd tvs get any where near it.

i would be sad to see it go,one thing is bothering me though and i dont know if any one else has had the same problem

if i turn it off at the switch or by the remote it wont turn back on for a least 15 minutes which is strange once it has turned back on it is fine,no flashing lights on the front either.the tv does turn on and you can hear the clunk these sets make as you turn them on but no picture.

i have warranty till the end of febuary do you think i should call them up?.

like i say i would hate to see it go but on the bright side i could probably put a pub pool table where it once sat.

I still have a crt set, a Philips 322 cool green 100hz model, around 11 years old now, and still great geometry, sound and pin sharp resolution. Im in no hurry for a flat screen just yet.
