Thanks: Gave 93, Got 53 | Sony KD32DX40U Coloured Outlines/Blurry
We recently got a Sony KD32DX40U for our student flat which seems to have coloured outlines (mostly green, but sometimes red) during bright scenes and text. Also, things look slightly blurred, which is especially noticeable when connecting my MacBook Pro via s-video (running at 1024x576). When playing video, the blurriness isn't that noticeable, but small text can be hard to read and has outlines.
I have managed to get access to the service menu, but am not quite sure how to use it and don't want to mess anything up. Does anybody know what to do to fix this issue?
Here are a few examples:

It could be a number of things, all of which won't be adjustable via the service menu. You'll need to have an engineer come and have a look at it. They'll check the Focus and Screen voltage control settings, condition of the tube, and also any scan coil/ tube magnet/ colour purity misalignment.

Thanks for that. Do you know roughly how much an engineer would charge?
One thing I should have mentioned, when we got the TV, it wouldn't fit through the door unless we rotated it screen-down, I'm thinking that may have caused the problem? (It was not fun carrying 65kg of TV down a flight of stairs with a tight bend!)

The cost of repair will depend really, plus there's normally a call out charge. I think it should cost well under £50 to put right, as there shouldn't be any components that will need changing (nor will the set have to be taken away).
Yes it's quite possible the scan coils have slipped a little whilst it was being moved. The engineer will re-seat the coils if this is the case, and adjust the TV's internal Focus setting for optimum sharpness.

to me it does look like a screen/focus problem as thats the first place id start off with, also looks like a convergence issue, again somthing that cant be done in the service menu you could take the back off and have a play with it but i dont advice it if your not familier with the insides on a crt |
