Well after roughly 18months of disappointment with both plasma and LCD TVs I am going to move back to CRT - I think
I started off the year with a Pioneer 433HDE 43" plasma which I had for several months. I did not get on with it at all. DVDs for the most part looked okay, but did not have the vibrancy of my old Sony CRT and as for black it did not have clue what that was. And Sky+ was at best watchable and at worst dire.
My dealer was very helpfull and understanding and agreed to take back the plasma for a full credit. So then I had to decide what to do next.
As I had nearly £4500 to spend with them I decided to go for a smaller LCD TV along with a new Denon 2900 DVD and a Denon 3803 AMP. Both of the Denon items are excellent and I have no complaints with them at all. But after 3 months of fiddling with the Sony 30" LCD I have decided it's not for me and have sold it.
So what to do now
Having not looked at CRT sets for sometime what's top of the crop at the moment ? I am thinking 36" and possibly the Pana PD30.
I would be hooking up Sky+ and the Denon 2900 DVD through the AMP using component for both - I have a
JS Tech converter for Sky+ - along with my GC, PS/2 and XBOX.
Any advice ? any new screens on the horizon ? I read something about a new Sony 36 incher.
Ideally I'd like to get something sorted before Xmas as I will be without a TV, apart from an old Sony 25" set, from later on this week...but am willing to wait to get it right.
Obviously I will go and demo the sets but it's nice to get a heads-up first.
Cheers, Lee
