cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

Hi all, just wondering if any of you have shipped a pj from the U.S before, I know its a risky business but any and all advice would be great. I dont want to use fedex because of the stories I have heard on other forums. Basicall I would like to get a pj from the US to london cheapest or best way possible. Thanks.

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

There are many issues with shipping from USA to here.

Personal address to person address are almost out of the question since 911 attacks.

Personal to business here are possible but NOT all courriers will entertain that.

Biz to Biz address thats OK.

You pay VAT on the goods value this side - thats 17.5% on the purchase price.

You can try and use a lower buying price BUT then the insurance value is also down AND you run a high risk that customs will drag you away - TO ME THIS IS NOT WORTH ANY RISK.

I ALWAYS ship at FULL VALUE.

I have 2 on route from USA to here at the mo, they are NOT cheap so I usually bring 5 at a time or more.

OR just the high end versions.

Shipping single PJ's I dont consider worth it, But others might......

THINGS TO NOTE..........

Assume the worst if shipping from abroad, that woy you wont get upset.

IF buying from aknown seller then they will usually arrange the shipping, unless you have time to kill let them do it.....

Shipping to airport is cheaper BUT remember the size to load into a car !!!

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

What I found most amusing was I was just about to post this thread when I read that....

VDC build BRAND NEW 4 million resolvable pixel CRT PROJECTOR

The NEW CRT from VDC..........

.

I also forgot that you will need to pay an import duty of about 4%.

I guess you should budget for about £500.00 for a large projector door to door......finished price.

YES you can get these things cheaper but that is a realistic figure to think about.....

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

Thanks thats great information, just what I needed.

All crt projectors need is someone to really make the boards using the best fab plants to shrink the size size of the boards. I might be wrong about this but I reckon that if someone where to make the boards as small as possible using tech like amd or intel or ibm have, you may be able to cut the weight and size of a nine crt by up to 30%. There would be less heat and less power from this process as well. Lets hope VDC or electrohome decide that we home theatre crt guys are worth the effort.

Thanks again guys.

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

The size is currently the tube neck length......

The weight is mainly in the Lens set, housings and the glass of the tubes.

Heat is not an issue to size - look at any digital PJ - or DONT .

Marquee are shorter as the cards are packed between the tubes.

I prefer the Barco layout but its downside is it is longer......

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

Should also point out that duty is payable on the cost of the goods PLUS shipping costs and then the 17.5% VAT is payable on that total....

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

Info hidden in my post 4 and 6

But true, duty and tax to pay.

Also handling charges, storage, Uk delivery to door,

ALWAYS insure to full value, unless you can afford to loose the entire shipment.

And thats just the shipping side of things............

Is it worth it ???

Well I have shipped about 20 projectors from USA in the last 18 months........Worth it if you can get them at a sensible price, Ive even sold some back to USA guys !!!

In fact last week I shipped 6 tubes back to USA while I have 15 on route here.......How nuts is that !!!

(Er! nuts is relative I guess - when you own FIVE 1209s , anyone wanna swop a cine9 )

Re: cost of shipping crt projector from U.S

Hi MrH. I saw that you had pointed out the duty and vat. I was merely pointing out the order it all gets added up. Duty on shipping then vat on top could be a significant amount on a crt projector.
