Room Seeks CRT

Hi

Plan is to get a 9" crt and an 8 to 9 foot fixed (I think) screen

The beams in the attached are roughly 3m apart and 2.1 meters up.

Suggestions and thoughts on mounting between the beams gratefully received

Chris

Re: Room Seeks CRT

Could you floor mount or does it have to be ceiling mount?

Hi Baggy,

I could floor mount but thought ceiling mounted would be preferable as it would mean less keystone correction, if this is the right terminology.

Re: Room Seeks CRT

That is an older style roof and so the actual roof beams should be strong enough to mount from.

Thats the beams that follow the roof line and not the two horizontal seen in the picture.

Floor mounted usually has the issue that the best seat in the house is exactly where the PJ sits

Floor mounting can also mean shorter cables, thats always a good thing.

Floor mounted does keep the PJ at a cooler level. And if a DIY job easy to install.

But For most Ceiling mounting is the answer.

Sort of.......

Many projectors can be set up in 3 different ways

Ceiling mounted
Floor Mounted
or Mounted On Axis

First two i think explain themselves.

Third is usually a rear screen projection setup the PJ site in the middle of the screen (on axis)

Depending on your position of the screen relative to the PJ will alter your required Keystone.

It is possible to have the same keystone for floor and Ceiling mounted - the PJ just needs to be the same distance above or below the screen for each mounting method.

Keystone is used to correct the left and right side geometry, this keystone adjustment allows you to make the sides vertical, high end machines will allow seperate control of left and right side.

Re: Room Seeks CRT

As Mad said with a floor mount the PJ occupies the prime seat but is easier for a DIY install.

What PJ are you getting?

Re: Room Seeks CRT

Thanks for the explanation, I thought I needed to learn a bit more.

What I was meaning is that if I floor mount then there would be a steeper angle to contend with than if I ceiling mount. That said there probably isn't much in it.

I aslo figured it would want my seat!

Depending on what is available but I'm aiming for one like yours, a 1209 and of course I want it now!

Other issues to contend with are getting it up the stairs which I will measure and photograph later for comment by those in the know. That said, the sub on the LHS is a REL Studio III and weighs 200lbs!

Here's a set up I had at my last place in a similar style room.

Re: Room Seeks CRT

Very nice Baggy,

I had been considering floormount as it would mean I could run cable under the floor, both from the PC and for power.

I dont plan to move from here any time soon and as you can see the room is dying for a bt of kit rationalisation and some thought on design.

The system has grown over the last 15 years and nothing has been done vis a vis cosmetic appearance (racks, cabling etc) so there is plenty of scope!

Ceiling mount seems somehow better in the long run, if only because of the hot seat, but I'm coming at it with an open mind!

At my last place we used the loft room and that meant carrying the Marquee 8001 I had then up two flights of stairs. An extreme effort but most definately worth it.

Re: Room Seeks CRT

If you're thinking of a 1209 use the LENS program (Mad has put a link in the FAQ thread) to calculate distances and height of the screen in relation to it.

You appear to have limited height ,so take that into consideration.

Have you visited fellow forum member Meep's website.
It's a nice looking loft room.
Search under his user name for a link to his website.

Not sure what you mean by limited height. The beams that run into the shot are 2.1m off the ground and 3 m apart. The apex of the roof is 3.5 or 4 m up.

Exactly the same scenario here. Yorkshire stone 1904 semi with attic room up two flights, second one through a narrow door.

Alternative though was to excavate cellar but SWMBO baulked at the £50k cost, sissy!

Re: Room Seeks CRT

When I said "limited height", I was thinking you were going to put joists between those two beams to hang a projector from and they are only 2.1m high.
That being your height limitation.
Sorry if I misinterpreted.
