With all the talks about HDCP, I decided to purchase John’s BG-DVI module. After several weeks of waiting, I was informed that the list is closed, and that John will not supply the modules anymore.
At this point I decided to purchase Moome’s DVI EXT BOX. While waiting for the arriving of Moome’s EXT BOX , I read about Greg’s port3 modification. Since I felt frustrated because I couldn’t put my hand on John’s BG-DVI module and after reading some reviews about Moome’s EXT BOX , I have decided to order Greg’s port3 modification .
I was curios to see the benefits of replacing my 15 meter long RG6 Belden cables, with a DVI cable.
Eventually, the two modules arrived at the same time. With Greg’s module, the story was a bit longer. At the beginning, I received v 2. The picture quality was not acceptable, due to heavy ringing. Port3 was sent back for modifications to v3. with v3 the picture quality was better, but still not good enough. Greg asked me to send back the port3, and this time, port5 too, to upgrade to v4s.
In the pictures below, you can see the two new DVI modules compared to the analogue way that perform with exceptional picture quality, based on HTPC -> ATI Radeon 9700 Pro + MP-1 mod.
Equipment that is used:
1.The PJ: Barco Graphics 1209s.
2.The Screen: Da-lite 4 x 3 (2.40 x 1.80 meter).
3.The Camera: Cannon G5, using tripod, distance from the screen - about 0.75 meter.
4.Source 1 : HTPC/ ATI Radeon 9700 Pro + MP-1 mod.> Belden 1694 RG6 cables + King BNC and the DVI output
5.Source 2 : HTPC /Nvidia 7900GT > DVI output .
6.The DVI Cables: A short DVI cable inside the PJ and a Ophit fiber/optic 15 meter cable.
7,Moome’s DVI EXT BOX .
8.Greg’s port3 V4s.
Note: I’m not sure about your experience with taking pictures using a digital camera, it’s very difficult to achieve good results. The actual sharpness of the picture on the screen is much much better then the posted pictures.
1.The analogue way - ATI Radeon 9700 Pro + MP1 -> Belden 1694 Cables + King BNC Connectors -> PJ

Now it’s with the Nvidia 7900GT - we can see the scan lines in the Red better than in the ATI.

3. If you remember the thread at the AVS “What is the best CRT Projector out there”
There was used the RESOLUT.BMP in order to show the PJ capabilities to resolve 1080P So I took a few pictures using the RESOLUT.BMP as a windows background :
This picture was posted in that thread # 719:

4. This is the first Greg’s Port 3( V2 ) received with the ringing problem, that was corrected with v4s:
Finally, I am happy to say that with the new modifications, I hope that my Barco PJ will continue to serve me for many years ahead.
