DB708 tubes where can I buy in th UK ?
Hi,
I just purchased a Barcodata 708 from EBAY ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWN:IT ) which I thought would not be a problem, but have since found out that the tube are not easy to find. Does anybody know what tubes fit this projector, it looks like it will need a new blue and red. All I know at the moment since it has not arrived is the tube were made by Toshiba. Any help would be appreciated.

Green is the center tube.
You might get away with that green - if you are not looking for perfect picture.
In that case red too will be OK.
Blue then you need.
Look for second hand . NEW will give you a shock on price.

Hi There,
Cheap price, but i'm afraid unless your lucky it may cost you between 500-1000 to put the PJ back in good condition. Still thats not too bad !
http://www.crtprojectors.co.uk/
Can get new Tubes if you drop them an email.
Ebay they crop up on ocasionaly, but they tend to be fairly worn, particularly the blue & green which is what everyone is after, so a good one even on ebay can easily reach a few hundered !
Cya,
Lee

Thanks for the info, looking a what the tubes are new I will look and see if I can find a secondhand Blue, I already use a Sony 1202 which has near perfect tubes and when I bougth this one made the mistake of think that the tubes would be the same as the other barco's / sony pj's and sell for around £150 each.
There is a vendor on Ebay selling Toshiba tubes but I don't know if they are compatible with the 708 and when I emailed him he has said that he does not know if they are they the correct tubes.
Well we all are allowed at least one mistake lol.
thanks again for the help

Hi There,
I'm not an expert on the 700 series (i'm not an expert anyway!) however this link
http://www.curtpalme.com/Barco701.htm
Should give you some info though the best bet is to pop the cover of the 708 and look at one of the tubes, find the barco part no. R********* and then search on that for info - This is particularly sound as sometimes they swapped tubes, other people may have played or modded it etc ?
cya,
Lee

Hi there
I could be mistaken, but if you can find a Seleco 150 or 350 for cheap you can rip the tubes out of them and put them in your Barco, I know the last 150 I had, had toshiba 180's in it. This maybe cheaper than paying £450 per tube.
Hope this helps

I'm pretty sure that the toshibas fit in the 708, but are not the native tube (which i think is panasonic?). There is something in the specsheet about improved brightness if I remember correctly, so if you're going down the toshiba route I'd suggest that you do all three so they match.
Maybe someone else can confirm this for sure though... Try e-mailing Curt Palme and asking him nicely - he's the person most likely to have had the first hand experience on this.

If it's any help I have a Sony SD-187 green tube available:
You'll probably notice that this has the green tinted glycol for better colour saturation where your 708 tubes use the clear stuff for brightness.
I also have some red tinted glycol if you fancied changing the stuff in your red tube.

I've said it before but if you're in to your colours I'd go for the Sony SD-187s over the generally supposedly slightly higher spec toshiba T180 tubes. I have a bias and its just my oppinion. Although I'm not toatlly sure what model tubes were in a 708 as standard so not sure if they were colour filtered or not.

I posted a message for Curt and here is his reply so I think I will wait until I get the projector to source new tube, but thanks for all the help.
"You need to take a look at the sticker on the side of your Barco tubes that is in the same place as the one in the second eBay link.
Two different tubes were used in these sets. The T180 were the early ones, the P16's are later tubes that were sharper for a longer period of time. THE P16 tubes are almost twice the price of the T180s. According to VDC. the P16s can be installed in place of the T180s, but not the reverse as the 180 tubes will burn out prematurely. "
excellent forum, helped a lot while I was setting up my Sony.

That's interesting - you definately can't get the sd-187s in there then.
As for availability, I think SD-187s are the most available, T180s are about, but I've never seen any P16s for sale.

BD 708 tubes
I too have a BD708 from June 2002. It uses the P16 tubes and are about $600 US from VDC. The Toshiba T180 are about $300 US from VDC. Mine has about 1K hours and the image is sweet.

Feel free to PM each other and work out if these are right for you, the "For sale" section then offers some protection for both seller and buyer. Thank you. CRT MODERATOR
