Just revisited this thread after 3 years. Glad to see it’s still alive. Amazed to see people still believing he actually did it despite several posts admitting otherwise and more than 1 link to his confession thread.

How stupid can some people be?

Comer, I am wondering what kind of cling wrap you used? I read the post about using liquid gold. That's a wood furniture polish here in the USA, so I decided to try mercury since I thought gold would be too hot when liquid to effectively cool the CPU. I tried this first with my ThermalTake Tai-Chi case, but it's gone now, so I sealed an acrylic case and started pouring mercury in the top fan hole.

I put cling wrap on the power supply, but it must have broken because the mercury kept flowing out of the power supply fan hole. Should I use a stronger brand, or maybe some wax paper instead?

Anyway, it doesn't matter too much, because the leg broke on my table, and the computer fell through the floor to the apartment downstairs. My neighbor is going to be really mad at me when he comes home. The next time I try this, I'm going to put the computer on the reinforced floor at work, next to our mainframe.

--Barry

P.S. Thanks for all the laughs.

As there have been no posts in this thread since 02-05-2006 surely it should be make 'un-sticky'?

This has to be one of the funniest threads on avforums, I think it should remain a sticky, what about a poll to decide?

Idiot, dont know what advice you've been given but to fill a pc case full of water sounds insane to me. You all seem to have forgoton water conducts electricity! So ur pc is just one pic short circuit no wonder ur breaker triped.

Ur lucky you didnt electricute your self or cause a fire!

My advice throw it all out and start again, but stay away from water!

No I see where it all went wrong.
He was using 20th century technology instead of the 21st.
Ice is the way to go but not with water ice but dry ice.
You see when the machine starts to warm up and the ice melts there's no water to short things out.
Simple realy, like me, I can't understand why it hasn't been thought of before.
Are all you posters that dum.

Reminds me of the "old days" working with clusters of Cray YMP-8Es. These things were cooled with a nonconductive liquid called (I think) Fluorinert. It was fun to see it bubble and fizz when a particularly heavy calculation was being performed. There is truly nothing new under the sun...

Ahh it's taken years to come up with a solution for your PC woes mainly because I was not a member back then and knew nowt about this thread until a few days ago!

But alas at last I have one

So if you still have it, it must be looking rather rusty by now. Just pop out and get a bottle of Lightning Mcqueens Rust-eze guaranteed to put a shine back on any piece of metal (although primarily designed for car bumpers).

Re: Kramer and other members promoting water cooling- you have alot to answer

602,172 views, 4 years, and many, many replys later. This thread has to have been the most funny joke I have ever seen. You guys gotta read all the suggestions that everyone posted. Gas power, sufficating cats, shoving pipes up cows @$$'s(lubricate first someone later said), oil cooled, pee cooled, etc. He even talked about him going to PCWorld and telling them he had a TC-10 (or something like that) error. Someone else was writing about putting in "central heating" by lighting a fire in the middle of his house (a LOT less beleivable than the original post). I laughed my @$$ off when I first saw this. This is hysterical. A

P.S. I did sign up because of this thread, maybee I'll stay :P

Of course when you water cool your PC you have to consider where to position it for easy plumbing...

Re: Kramer and other members promoting water cooling- you have alot to answer

@ALL

OK, having been a PC Engineer for over 20 years, I can say with all honesty that I have enough experience to solve this problem once and for all...

I've carefully read this entire thread and have noted that "ordinary tap water" was used to fill the PC case. I'm afraid THAT was the big mistake, since I can confirm tap water IS impure, and IS therefore conductive. Many posters have already confirmed this, and have also mentioned that 100% PURE water is NON-conductive, but no-one has yet mentioned WHERE to obtain a ready supply of 100% PURE water.

H8Ball to the rescue, then! Try here...

www.buydehydratedwater.com

Dehydration is the process of removing ALL water content to leave a completely DRY residue. Since dehydrated water contains ZERO water content, it CANNOT contain ANY water impurities whatsoever. It logically follows that dehydrated water MUST be 100% PURE, and therefore MUST be non-conductive.

If you DO decide to use dehydrated water, you'll need to remember ONE important safety consideration. In order to MAINTAIN its purity and therefore its non-conductivity, you MUST ensure that you REhydrate your dehydrated water ONLY with 100% PURE water...

Cool Re: Kramer and other members promoting water cooling- you have alot to answer

Been reading this thread and enjoying all the replies, mickey takes etc.

For me one thing springs to mind - if your PC was so noisy why didn't you investigate quieter components first.

e.g fanless CPU heatsink , replacement Quiet PSU

and if still too noisy - soundproof your case.

Water cooling is only for the supreme techie geek and those who can afford to replace bits if they screw it up.!!!!
