Laptop to PC using vga-dvi-i converter - HELP!

Hi,

I am trying to output my acer 7720g laptop to my matsui "MAT26LW507" HDTV (LCD). I originally tried to do this by using a dvi-i to component (RCA) cable, only to find that the output from my laptop was dvi-d, so instead used a vga-dvi-i adapter, then using the same cable to connect to the tv. I am getting a "no signal" reading on my hdtv and am unsure as to what could be causing the problem.

The vga output on the laptop works fine when connected to a regular vga monitor.

Component input on the tv also works fine on my xbox 360.

I have tried the same setup with other laptops and still no luck.

Does your TV not have HDMI? DVI to HDMI would be the simplest and easiest way.

DVI-D is a digital only connection
DVI-I is an analogue & digital connection
VGA is an analogue only connection.

Therefore you can not connect a DVI-D device to a VGA device without hardware conversion of the signal.

As he next sentence was that the VGA output worked fine I assumed he was using that rather than the DVI-D connection.

Re: Laptop to PC using vga-dvi-i converter - HELP!

yeah i realised the dvi-d and dvi-i vable were incompatible so i bought a dvi=i to vga converter because there are both ports on my laptop, if they are all dealing with analogue signal i cannot see why it shouldn't work. In hindsight maybe I should have just gone straight from DVI to HDMI but have had some trouble with the port on the television. Thank you all for your responses. It might just be my poor tv lol.
