Can I delete .tmp files

I want to gain some space on my C drive. I have noticed a lot of .tmp files (>20 mbytes) in the Windows\temp folder eg one is called slu7881.tmp

Can I assume that I can safely delete these .tmp files?

I am running Windows XP

Re: Can I delete .tmp files

You should be using.
Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Clean-up.
Also go into control panel and select internet options, Browsing history, and set to 50 - 100Mb. XP by default sets this to a percentage of your hard drive, big hard drive then a rediculously high setting, then run Disk clean-up.

Re: Can I delete .tmp files

You can also delete any .chk files and if you're an expert with any application get rid of the Help files for it.

Re: Can I delete .tmp files

You should get a freeware program called CCleaner. This basically lets you choose what to clean up, and it does a brilliant job of it

Re: Can I delete .tmp files

CCleaner certainly does the job but be careful not to let it delete everything by default as it will often list something you would rather keep.
