Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 - if this is the product you're referring to - includes Firewall, Antivirus, Antispam etc

If you just need 1 user, buy this.

Install the 2012 demo of Kaspersky's website and when the 2011 box arrives use the code inside to unlock the 2012 version on your computer.

Also remember that if you/family bank with Barclays you can get a complementary 3 user version off their Internet banking website.

how do you know it won't disable features that are new for 2012 or not be fully supported with updates etc. it seems a great idea, but surely there's a catch?

Nope, Kaspersky and Norton both allow you to use the latest version of their software, so long as you have a valid license to use the product.

You can use a 2009, 2010 or 2011 license code of Kaspersky Internet Security to unlock the latest 2012 demo version.

Kaspersky actually tell you to update to the latest version of their software even with an older (but active) license key - Kaspersky Lab UK :: Upgrade Kaspersky antivirus software
and here - Kaspersky Lab :: Barclays FAQ
and here - Migration policy to Kaspersky Internet Security 2012

Hi Mark have you noticed any differences between KIS2011 & 2012 performance wise. I have just continued with 2011 as happy with that but just curious.

I'm still running KIS 2011 on my PC. But I did update a Win XP laptop last week from KIS 2009 to 2012 and that has been running fine since - well no support calls this week, so it must be ok

Mark.

I've just removed KIS2011 from my pc because it was interferring with opening programs. How can I download a trial of KIS2012. I've got 40 days left on my old licence.

As a footnote to this, as you get to the time when there is only 1 month of licence left, you start getting bombarded with reminders on the screen when you switch on, to re-new your licence. Now last time a did this, I didn't get my licence extended by 12 months. It cleared my outstanding quota and started a new 12 months licence. So this time, I have delayed the renewal. The problem has been, that I have a 3 user licence and it gets a little tedious whenever I log on getting the warning message. As a final straw, my media centre would accumulate messages which I would have to deal with manually. It got to the stage where my machine got choked with warnings such that it wouldn't respond to the remote inputs. So I've decided to revert to Microsoft Security Essentials and keep the £££ in my pocket.
