Free Visio Software Alternative

Hi All,

I am looking for a free alternative to visio as I want to create some drawings for things like new Home Cinema drawing projects as well as a few other things.

Can anyone suggestion or recommend alternatives?

I have seen a few bits of software but wondered if anyone has used any of them:

Kivio
GraphViz
Dia
Skencil

Please let me know what your suggestions are or if any of the above are any good.

Chiming in late here but since you never got a response, thought it may be helpful for others too. I've tried a couple of the ones you listed. Dia was the best and it's open source which is a plus but it feels kinda clunky and can't do some basic things like rotation.

You should really check out some of the online options now. The one my wife's company uses is called Lucid Chart, for example, and I've tinkered with it and have been very impressed.

We've used Dia in our office. It's nowhere near as slick as Visio, but fine for most of our needs (documenting software and basic diagrams).

If you are looking for something free and open source then I suggest Dia. The rest depends on the features you want. If you just want to draw diagrams with real-time collaboration then try Creately, However if you want advance features like Visio imports you can try Lucidchart. The options are almost endless.
