Smile creative soundworks speakers on av receiver

hi there
i have a set of small creative 5.1 DTT2200 (cambridge soundworks) speakers that i wish to use with my new onkyo TX-SR605 av receiver
as i have 2 pc's and an xbox 360 wii and ps3 and i would like to use just the one set of speakers for all.
here are my questions

can i just wire myspeakers straight to the front / rear / centre speaker inputs on the reciever ?

can i just plug the powered bass sub straight in to the receiver ?

have read that the speakers need to be over 4ohms not sure if they are also if they are between 4-6 ohms i have to change a setting but not sure what they are.

i then intend to connect to my various sorces by optical / spdif / line etc.

please dont tell me to by a new set of proper surround speakers as i intend to do that as soon as i move to my bigger house this is just for the moment while i am in a small room.
will not be really banging them out yet .

thanks for your help in advance.
Deano

Re: creative soundworks speakers on av receiver

As long as the speaker resistance is more than the minimum stated in the receiver manual then this will be fine (although you may have to cut off the connectors at the ends of the speaker leads).

To check the resistance, however, you are going to have to open up one of the speakers (unless the creative manual says anything about it). On my creative 4.1 speakers there were 4 screws on the back. Simply remove them, and you should get inside the case. Look at the metal rear of the actual speaker driver, and there should be the resistance rating.

Unfortunately you will probably find they are 4Ohms (mine were).
I recommend you don't use them if they are 4ohms, as you may permanently damage the amp.

If they are higher than 4 ohms, then you still need to be careful - these are 6W speakers, and you're receiver is capable of 140W!

You should be able to plug the powered sub into the line out from the receiver.

sorry to dig this one back up but how did this one pan out? I intend on doing this until I get some speakers, and even then use the small speakers as mini satellites

Thanks, Kevin
