£45 for a 64GB USB SSD? Would you care to share that link?

If you're mainly reading data lifetime should be independent of the technology and down to how well the particular device is constructed.

How much power does the HH supply? Is it sufficient for an SSD?

on BT HH2 it is not fully supported. It can be done though.

The HH3 supports usb drives.

If it is to stream music I think you would be better off looking at a small NAS device or a usb drive and adapter to make it networkable.
