PSU Replacement, Overkill or Ok?

Afternoon all.

I have a questions regarding PSU and graphics

I've currently got an Advent PQD4003 and my understanding is that the PSU is around the 300w area.

I've been looking at the Alpine 700w PSU to potentially upgrade whats currently in there. Is this overkill. I will eventually be replacing the whole PC, probably within the next 18 months or there about.

I've also been looking to put in a new graphics card and have been looking at the Geforce GT 52.

Can anyone give me any advice on if these are going to be fine to use with what I currently have, or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks

Alpine PSU's are low quality from what I know. Their 700W PSU is probably the same as a 300W PSU from a decent manufacturer like Corsair / Antec / OCZ

I would stick with what you have if you are talking about the GT520

Having had a look at various reviews I'll steer clear of the Alpine psi. Would've been too big anyway as I'll need a micro atx psu.

As above, Alpine is a very cheap brand. You shouldn't be cutting corners with a cheap PSU, you can get a Corsair CX600 for less than £50.

Also if you mean GT 520, you certainly don't need that much power however you always upgrade to a Corsair CX430 if need be, their only less than £40.

As above
Picked up the corsair CX600 yesterday and is powering an i7 rig and HD5850

Ok, so you've got a PC with a 300W PSU (I'm guessing its a fairly cheap PSU as fitted at manufacture), then replacing it with a good brand 300-350W PSU is going to be more than adequate. Scan do BeQuiet and Antec 350W units for around £30. The power supply market is insane at the moment, CPUs and GPUs are becoming ever more frugal, yet everyone's going nuts putting 600W PSUs into PCs that won't break 200W draw.
